Marbelite is a coloured marble plaster with a cement base used for coating concrete or gunite pool surfaces. Marbelite comes in several colors ranging from the basic white to the dazzling colours such as turquoise and midnight blues. Applied correctly, marbelite can last you 15 to 20 years without need for resurfacing. In this article, we will give you step by step instructions of how Trademen Pools re-marbelite swimming pools.
- Empty the pool: (we can direct the water anywhere subject to the limits of our pipes).
- Cut a deep ring under the ceramic tiles, around the light, weir and aim flow. Break down edges of steps and any cornered features in the pool. This is to provide a flashpoint for the new to old marbelite
- Chop up the rest of the pool with a chopping hammer or any other sharp object to obtain a rough finish. This also allows for better bonding of the old and the new marbelite.
- Cook up a “slash”, this is a thick mixture of the marbelite product, water and bonding liquid. Splash this to the walls and leave it to dry overnight. This makes the pool surface even more ready for the bond with the actual marbelite
- Dampen the pool surface by watering it down with a garden hose. Mop up any standing water left on the floor of the pool after hosing down the surface.
- Mix the marbelite by hand in the pool with appropriate additives in terms of colorants and strengtheners and they apply it in almost the same way as plaster but with the appropriate tools.
- Apply the Marbelite to the pool surface beginning at the top of the walls and working your way down. Use a rounded steel trowel for the application of the material, firmly pressing the material onto the dampened pool surface with the trowel to a layer of 4 millimeters thick. Add a second layer of the material of equal thickness after the first.
- Plaster the floor of the pool beginning at the deep end and working your way to the shallow side. Use two layers of the material on the floor of the pool as well. Allow the plaster to set slightly, just short of hardening in place. Go over the surface with the trowel one more time to polish the surface.
- Leave it to cure overnight and initiate the pouring of water first thing in the morning of the following day. Use a hose with a deflector attached to the end to avoid damaging the surface from the water’s pressure. Keep the Marbelite damp while filling the pool, spraying it down hourly
- Brush the pool only with a soft brush for 14 days to allow it time for drying (marbelite dries underwater). After the 14 days, you may now connect the kreepy
